Movies And Novels.... Which Is Best?

I have wondered why movies written in novels seems to be more interesting than the movie. Has anyone read "The Hobbits", "Lord Of The Rings"... But out of it all, there is none like "Hard To Be A God" by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (1964), "A Room With A View" by E.M. Forster (1908), "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee (1960). But right now am in page 67 on "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel García Márquez and next am gonna be on "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy which i am planning to order from Amazon by the end of the month.

I will choose both. It is better to know the difference between the novels and films. Some film adaptations are not completely based on the novels.

@Tracy04 I think we can read first the novels and find out the difference when watching the films.

I do both, but usually I watch the movie then read the book. That way the movie does not have any expectations to live up to.

Books allow more detail and character development than movie adaptations which usually chop out parts of books.

I prefer the books, in a book you can choose what the charaters look like and pick voices and basically customize them to how you as an individual sees them. when i read a book then watch the movie the actors are usually far from what i imagined they would by like. Now if its a sci-fi movie, bring on the CGI.
