I wish I could start a business

I would like to be able to start a business. Or it would be nice if I could find a good work at home job or something related to both. I am always looking for ways to supplement my income especially because it has been so unstable and variable for so long. I crave stability like a drug. Sales are challenging for me and I am able to do some marketing and advertising but I have never been able to make much money doing it. A lot of businesses and work at home jobs require that to some degree so it is difficult. It is also hard to have money to pay to start a business and if I pay and am unsuccessful that is frustrating and has occurred unfortunately. I do not know if I am just not meant to have a business or if I have not found one that works for me. What do others think about this?

My side line is mystery shopping. One can start without any money at all, but it is better to have a little money to get started. If interested check out There is a list of legitimate mystery shopping companies there.

I have never felt comfortable with mystery shopping but I am glad that that works for you. Thank you for the suggestion. I think that when I have the money I would like to try a children book selling business that I found out about on craigslist. I like the woman who is doing it and what I have learned about the company plus I love kids and books.

@Tracy04 I haven't watched that show. You sign up with mystery shopping companies, then select jobs from their job boards. Once assigned a job you read the directions, visit the businesses and make the required observations. Then fill out the report. Just about every chain is mystery shopped, so there is lots of work. The variety keeps me interested. I have mystery shopped fast food, casual restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, all manner of retail stores, gas stations, oil change places, etc.

@Tracy04 There are hundreds of mystery shopping companies. Some only have one client near me; that is why you have to sign up with many companies. Most times you have to buy something. Today I will buy groceries and will be reimbursed $20. I won't get a fee. Other jobs I just buy a small item to be reimburse and also get paid a fee. Other times I make observations and don't have to buy anything, and get paid a fee. $15-$20 is common but it varies a lot. Every job has its own set of instructions which must be followed. A list of legitimate companies is at

Once you find something you enjoy doing, you'll never "work" again. Good luck in finding your calling.

I agree with you there and the challenge is to find something or things like that.

I provide childcare in my home. I'm not sure if that's something you would want to do. It's not a lot of money but I love kids and the extra money helps. =) Or maybe pet sitting if you like animals?

I babysit outside of my home and have never done it at home since I have never had my own place so it would be up to someone else. I love kids too and the money helps. I do not love animals enough to do that but thank you for the suggestion. I think that when I have the money I would like to try a children book selling business that I found out about on craigslist. I like the woman who is doing it and what I have learned about the company plus I love kids and books.

My way of earning is repurposing and recycling articles and put them for sale on the website. Somebody will purchase them. But, it needs a good and great devotion because the articles you make should have a good finish.
