Get Back in the Truck

I submitted a discussion several days about the girl who texted her boyfriend to get back in the truck just before he killed himself by carbon monoxide. I said I would update when I learned more. Reading the paper today I saw that she was found guilty of manslaughter. I suppose sentencing will come later. The judge said when she said " Get back in the truck " she sealed her fate. It was only considered murder when he got out of the truck and she told him to get back in. Her lawyer argued that it was freedom of speech and the girls rights were being violated but the judge didn't go for that. He repeated that it was freedom of speech until he got out of the truck and she told him to get back in the truck and finish the job.

@RubyHawk No I doubt he would have..he wasn't in the proper state of mind to resist her commands and obeyed.

Absolutely, he wouldn't have gotten back in the truck without her urging him on.

True. I believe in freedom of speech but that doesn't mean convincing someone to kill himself.

How was it freedom of speech? Some lawyers will stoop at anything to get their clients off. Why in the world she would tell/text him to get back in the car is just beyond my thinking. Did she think she was being compassionate by some stretch of her imagination?

It sounds to me like she was vindictive. She couldn't have thought she was being compassionate by any stretch of the imagination.

I donĀ“t get it. Were they near? Or was the texting from a distance?

It was from a distance. This wasn't the only time. The boys phone was filled with these kind of messages and she sent emails.

@RubyHawk If someone sent me messages to go and kill myself, I would not do it but I would tell the police that someone is harrassing me.

No matter the rights and wrongs of the situation, it's an awful thing to have happened.

I'm so sick and tired of that Freedom of Speech crap infiltrating everything @RubyHawk . I'm glad the judge stood his ground.

So am I. She will serve some time but it won't be enough for taking a human life.

@RubyHawk She had every opportunity to save his life, but instead helped to snuff it out.

@just4him That's exactly what she did and she must pay although it likely won't be more than five years.

This seems a very sad case all round. She sounds pretty heartless.

This is just so horrible. How can anyone let someone take over their mind? How could anyone tell someone to kill themselves?

I don't understand why the boy let her take control of his life. He must have been depressed and down on himself.

The investigators saw what was on the boys phone and went to her home took her phone and computer. She had also sent emails that convicted her.
