Beetlejuice

In director Tim Burton's 1988 comedy, Beetlejuice, Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara Maitland, after dying in an auto accident, find themselves inhabiting their old home as ghosts. When the obnoxious Deetz family (Jeffrey Jones as Charles, Catherine O'Hara as Delia, and Winona Rider as Lydia) buys the house, Adam and Barbara unsuccessfully try to haunt them out, after which, against the advice of their caseworker, they hire a professional bio-exorcist ghost, Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton.) As it turns out, Lydia is the only living being that can see and talk to Barbara and Adam, and therefore spends a lot of time hanging out with the couple. Problem. Beetlejuice takes a fancy to Lydia and is hell bent on marrying her. And even though Adam and Barbara have fired Beetlejuice, he is determined to see the job through. As far as I'm concerned, the rude, crude Beetlejuice is Michael Keaton's finest work. Over the top, Keaton is hilarious, and the rest of the cast ain't none too shabby, either. Beetlejuice won the Academy Award for Best Makeup. The movie spawned a cartoon that lasted four years, shows at various Universal Studios theme parks, and two video games. I highly recommend Beetlejuice. You'll never hear Harry Belafonte's "The Banana Boat Song" the same way ever again. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Yeah, that's what everyone says....Beetlejuice just ruined "Banana Boat Song" (much better than Stripes did at ruining "The Rubberband Man" for me).

Ah yes, the classic mud wrestling scene. The best part is when Psycho yells out "Beat the (you know what) out of them, Ox!"

Loved this one growing up! Although I like Winona Rider better in Mermaids, and of course later in Stranger Things

@teamfreak16 really!? Ok, both are a bit on the nostalgic side, Mermaids was a move back in the early 1990s with Cher, Bob Hoskins, a very young Christina Ricci, and Michael Sheoffling the guy who played Jake Ryan in sixteen candles. Stranger Things is a show on Netflix the second season should be out this fall. But here's the original trailer for Mermaids

@teamfreak16 I totally agree with you. It's one of the best works coming from Geena David and Michael Keaton.

Funny, we were talking about this, and Betelgeuse, earlier. And FTL travel. All started with a comment about Cassini and its 20year trip to get photos as it passed between the planet Saturn and its rings. Odd, the way lunchtime discussions do that.

@teamfreak16 The byways and side-streets of a conversation - this guy used to be brilliant at them, always returning to the point at which he digressed in his 5-minute monologues...

Very good movie. Keaton was sensational as Beetlejuice! Tim Burton is the king of the "strange, really weird movie."
