Today I finish the countdown of ten favorite songs that have a living building of some sort mentioned in the title. And, for today's grand finale, I'm turning to a gem of classic country music. Here's my favorite. #1: Paper Mansions - Dottie West Dottie West had two distinct careers. In the 60s she was the "sweet girl singer" who had a string of hits; and in the 70s she had a more....um..."lived hard" look as she scored duet hits with Kenny Rogers. The latter was more true: she had to file for bankruptcy despite singing and writing some big hit singles and being the first woman in country music history to win a Grammy. I remember seeing a picture of her scrapbook of Patsy Cline, with singe marks around the edges. When her house burned down that was one of the things she grabbed. But oh, oh, oh, what a voice this woman had. And what a career. She should be in the Hall of Fame (of course, there are a dozen people I can say that about). How many other country female singers did a Coke commercial?! This was Dottie's last top ten hit in the 60s. She would rebound in the early 70s when that Coke commercial ("Country Sunshine") hit #2 on the country charts. Here she delivered a terrific song (that she did not write, for a change) about being able to see through the promises that a love is making. If a house of cards is flimsy, the paper mansion is even weaker. What a song. What a legend. Thanks for reading. You scratch your head that she isn't in the HOF especially when you see some of the names that are.

I know. I love Mac Wiseman, and he's a bluegrass legend, but my opinion is that he was put in the country hall of fame to keep someone else out. He never had a big career in country music, just bluegrass (and he was, I think, the 3rd or 4th person inducted into the Bluegrass HofF).

I thought I might recognize this, because the country station played her a lot. But I'm afraid I don't know this one.
