Would You Give Yours Away?

Would you give one of your kidneys to your spouse or a close family member who is desperately in need?. There was a news item some years ago about a famous comedian/ actor who divorced his wife five years after receiving one of her kidneys. I am wondering, would she have given it to him if she had even dreamed that their 17 year- old marriage would end in divorce. I would definitely give one of mine to my mother, father, sister , brother or child - but I would have to be very sure that my spouse loves me before I give him one of my kidneys. What are your thoughts?

There is a myLotter who gave a kidney to her husband and I would surely do the same if my husband was in need.

@LadyDuck, you are such a very loving, kind, caring and thoughtful wife my friend. You'll surely do it for your husband loves you so much too, no doubt of giving a part of the body.

Yes. But that is so rotten on the part of comedian / actor. So rotten...

Ironically In my post "The Proposal" @hopefulman and myself were discussing whether it was a good thing for a woman to ask a man to marry her. And I did say that it wasn't such a good idea, because if anything went wrong, he could always say -" you asked me - not I". In the case of the comedian, I think she was the one who proposed.

@Kandae11 .. Ah it hardly matters who asks whom. If tables were turned, it would be she who would be saying the same thing. lol. What matters is caring. She cared, he did not. If he knew what his feelings for her were, he should have disclosed them..saying I love you and care for you...but not as much as you love and care for me. She would know where she stands, and then it would be her decision whether she went ahead and did that.

I think I will do it. My weakness is my family and I don't want them to suffer. It is better to donate one of my kidneys.

Without a doubt, I'd give one to my husband or any other family member. That husband of hers will get his karma one day.

Oh, that was so sad indeed. You gave your spouse your other kidney yet he divorced you after some years after that. If I were the spouse, I would ask back for the kidney.

If I could, I would. Whatever my heart tells me to do. I wouldn't regret if we ended in divorce, I expect my good action to pay in future.

I would and I am sure that comedian's wife thought he was in love with her after being together for 17 years but he still took the kidney and left. Not sure why. It is difficult to know for sure.

Compatibility for kidney transplants is hard to match, so if I were a match for someone who needed one, I wouldn't hesitate regardless of who they are.

I wouldn't necessarily do it for a stranger, but would absolutely do it for a family member. And as for the 'divorce' question; I have no fear that my wife and I are together forever, but even if there was a chance otherwise, the chance of divorce in 3 years wouldn't dissuade me from giving her a kidney today.

I definitely would. My mother lived most of her life with only one kidney, after a serious illness. She lived to be 93 with only one, so that showed me that I could easily give one away and still live a full life. And saving the life of someone I love would mean so much to me!

@Kandae11 I think it is a shame after what she did for him that he divorced her. I would have to make sure that the person is worth it before I would give my kidney away and also if it is good to donate to someone.

Not a nice story isn't it! Women in love are always like that unfortunately. (Unless she begged him to get lost after that successful operation? Nah, if she knew that the guy was such an AH, she wouldn't have given him anything for sure!)
