You want me to do what for $2?

A few weeks ago I received a short survey from Nielsen TV ratings. For the honor of completing the survey they put $1 in the envelope. The survey was short so what the heck.....I filled it out and they said more information would be coming. It came.... Many years ago my parents had the Nielsen box in their home - they were paid to use it. I think they had it several years. It was there, it did it's thing, they didn't have to do anything but collect the money. That's what I thought I was applying for - wrong! I received two surveys' one for each TV - we are to write down on the survey form what channel, what time, the name of the show, etc. Every time you change channels you have to do this - all day and night for as long as the TV is on, for 7 days. I thought, sure I can just hear my husband's reaction - I was right - his survey answer was "tell them to.....(you fill in the blank). You have to do that for a week, 7 days, every time the TV is on....for $2. Give me an blankin' break! I thought I was really going to be a true Nielsen member like my parents were. If Nielsen wants to know what I watch they can send someone here to sit with me - I change the stations so often that person's head will spin right off! Bye bye Nielsen - and thanks for the two bucks! Photo is mine.

Yes they are very stingy with the payments some of these companies. That is way overboard Abby. Ridiculous.

I've done that a couple times. I'm sure they were surprised by how much TV I don't watch.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes! I think they survey a lot of people so they can't give as much as they did back in the day

Not a big deal, I just assumed it would be different or I should say more like what it used to be.

@AbbyGreenhill I fully agree a survey like this for a full week could be paid at least $150.

a very long time ago they asked me to do the same, with that same money. At that time I did not have cable and this was before dish, I called with the number on the letter and listened to the lady ( when you talked to people and not machines) After listening to the "how it works" I told her well I can do it now, If its on ABC, CBS, NBC or PBS I watch it and nothing else.

They can go pound salt for $2, that's asking an awful lot of people.

I am surprised to it. Perhaps they should consider to install something to your TV or something like that so that you don't have to record all of these for two dollars only. They should get the data information automatically.

@Tina30219 Did you have to record everything on paper what you watched every minute for a week?

My father-in-law is like that when he watches television. So no one watches with him except her wife who complains about it and commands him to stop and then they will quarrel. For me and hubby, we watch in our bedroom.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes! We had to do it for about 3 years, you get a $25 check 3-4 times a year. When we first started i believe we got 4 checks the last year we got 1 or 2.

Seriously only $2? That to me sounds a little far fetched. I would be telling them what they could do with their money as watching something for 7 days to report it for only that would not even make it worth doing.

Yes sometimes companies want to make profit- that is ok. But what is not ok is these companies asking people to do ridiculous things for a paltry sum. How can they think that they can get away with it? They should have at least given 10 to 15 USD for this activity.
