Did my non-speaking kid really utter a full sentence?

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm working at the preschool with a kid who understands everything but doesn't speak. He's 2 1/2, and very attached to me.
On Wednesday, while building sand houses together, I said to him: Am I Noah (his name)? He laughed and said no. I said, Are you Horse? He laughed and said no. I said, Am I Horse? He said yes. I said are you a turnip? He laughed and said no. I said, what's your name? He said No-ah. It was the first time I'd heard him say his name.
Later, I was helping him take a wet shirt off. It got stuck on his chin. His face was hidden in the shirt. I said, I can't find Noah! Where's Noah? From under the shirt I heard, I am Noah! My little buddy is starting to speak!

@TheHorse Does the boy have older siblings?
My husband has three nieces. The third didn't say a thing for a very long time. The parents were really worried. The reason was that she was simply too lazy. Her sisters did everything for her without her uttering a sound.
A friend of mine has two elder brothers. She told me that the second brother didn't talk the way toddlers do, single words, basic sentences. He kept schtumm until one day he opened his mouth and talked in full sentence.

Wow that's awesome! It's amazing when we get to see accomplishments from little ones for the first time. =)

@crazyhorseladycx It can be satisfying. But you can't imagine the poopy diaper I changed on this kid today. He was singing the ABC song without words (I sang along) and I was dealing with some Pennsylvania river overflowing.

@nanette64 I wonder what his next sentence will be. I think he's trying to say, "I want that one."

awww, that is awesome!
Ya know we used to do the name game with the babies, just to make them giggle and for them to talk. I had a great niece that stuttered and I helped her get over it, but since I babysat her all the time it was easy plus we were best friends too, its nice to have a 3-4 year as a best friend.
You brought back memories from 30 years ago.

@TheHorse Software development for the automotive industry. The corporate world is leaving me increasingly empty and dissatisfied with every additional day I spend in it.
This is why I'm looking to retire at 55 (2 years, 8 months and 11 days - not that I'm counting) and maybe do some voluntary work for an animal rescue centre.

Congratulations! Helping children is a very gratifying profession. Children can be wonderful and at times, trying. Keep working with the boy and let us know as he progresses!
