(And I think this is a good discussion. Actually I can say this is not just the product of my child but we talk about it and I accept I made big contribution in this journal writing. Its hard to tell the children about war so I think parents should be careful in explaining about the things happening about the war so I worked with him to make it more parental rather than writing the real situation in Marawi City.) Here is the essay: My name is Jaeden Tyler, I am grade 5 in San Esteban South Central School and I live in San Esteban, northern part of the Philippines. I am so far away to Marawi City. In fact I don’t know about the place because I heard it is located in Mindanao. But now I know about Marawi City because I heard it from radio and television news. I heard this is on-going war between the military of our country against the terrorist group known as Maute group. They make war in that place and cause trouble to the people and community. Because they made some threats to the place our government responded through battle with them. It’s been days and months that the war is going on in Marawi City. Many lives have been sacrificed that include the lives of soldiers and people living there, that also include the lives of children like me. The people fled away to the said place so they should not be kill during the battle. Many house, buildings and trees and even rice fields are damaged because of the bombing. I consider myself as a lucky child because there is no war in our place. We are going to school from Monday to Friday and I can play during Saturday and Sunday. I wonder if the kids in Marawi City can play like me. I hope they have enough foods for their meals. I hope there is house for them to sleep. I hope there is no war in the Philippines.

That's good my friend. Yes it's the better way to make children understand about the circumstances around. Have a great day

Good writing there. This is only gonna get much better. So congrats! Teaching your child a thing or two of keeping a journal is a great thing for you to do as a mother. You're guiding his mind and focus towards a good direction. Children these days need good types of diversion, such as playing outdoor sports, reading stories, writing, reciting poems, engaging in arts, dance, music and so on, for their overall development. This is to make them stronger both as an individual and as a citizen. And yes, most young people, who have been taken in wrong directions, are nowadays engaging in unhealthy activities. Even some of them fall victim of war and they are forced to take part in it. It's really a thing to worry about the most right now. But there'll always be hope if we have more people like you So keep up the good work!
