Flat Broke (A Poem)

Jack was a poor bloke.
He was flat broke.
He didn't have a dime to his name.
He lived his life in constant shame.
Once Jack was a respectable gent.
He could afford to pay his rent.
Ah, gambling was his fatal flaw.
He was in debt to his mother-in-law.
Now Jack works fifty hours a day.
He gives up all his hard earned pay.
Bills must be paid for.
The rent is due.
Jack is tired,
And his eyes are sunken blue.
One day Jack will get out of debt.
And then his wife won't be so upset.
Until that day finally arrives,
Jack will be more dead than alive.
Gambling is a cruel way to end
A life that blows away your friend.
Tomorrow the gambling will be no more,
And Jack will break the debtor's door.
