Dear friends, Rainy days are going on and no wonder when house-flies arrive without an invitation. I hate to see them but can’t do anything when they fly around. They are flying outside of the home still I can’t tolerate their presence. I heard it salt can get rid of these insects and had a try. I put some salt in water along with Lizol (liquid for cleaning floors) and clean the floor with this solution. Fortunately it worked well and I am happy not to see them any more. How you tackle house-flies if they are around?

Tiara, don't put salt into your houseplants! Salt will kill plants very quickly! If you have those little flying gnats you can kill them by letting your plants get too dry for a few days and then watering them. If you have bugs on your houseplants you can kill them by mixing up a weak solution of dish soap and water in a spray bottle and misting your plants thoroughly. About an hour or so after you spray the plants with soapy water you set your plants in a protected area and pour clean water into the soil, avoiding rinsing your plants. You do want enough clean water to rinse soapy water out of the soil or your plants may have a problem from the treatment. (I have poured a gallon of water into smaller pots to rinse the solution out of the soil and larger amounts in bigger pots.) Make sure your plants drain well before taking them back where you normally keep them.

I can use an insect swatter. Sometimes I can just use commercial sprays.

Every kiosk I've seen here uses fly paper to deal with flies rather than salt. any video evidence or something?

I haven't heard about fly paper. Salt seems to be easy for me. I have to clean the floor, so adding some salt in the water is not a big deal.

That's interesting, I didn't know salt could deter flies. Your method wouldn't work for me as we have carpets everywhere. We get very few flies in the house, but I use flyspray if they appear.

If carpets is there then you can't follow this method. Sprinkle salt water also helps but salt water may damage your carpet.

Hmmm... I don't normally see any houseflies at my house. I do see one once in a while at my work, though. We don't have anything that will draw flies to our house, let alone into our house.

We too nothing have to drawn files inside house. But out, where the garbage is keeping, is attracted especially once the boy comes for picking the same. He created a mess every time and I have to clean it the whole place. A small boy is coming to collect it and he is too small to hold the same. So you can guess the mess.

@DaddyEvil I asked to the boy who send him to collect it. Usually a bigger boy is coming and there was no problem. I do not appreciate when small children arrive to collect the garbage.

@Sreekala Oh, my! Yes, I am sure that would create a draw for flies! It is too bad he is too small to collect your trash correctly! Our garbage bin is kept at a distance from our house. It is a pain for me to carry the trash 1/2 block from our house to place it in the receptacle, but I like that there are no flies drawn close to our house!

Normally I just use the fly swatter but I like this much better. That is like half sugar and have baking soda will keep most bugs away.

Our houses in Australia all have fly-proof netting on the windows so the flies rarely come into the house.
