For a television series being considered a ratings failure lasting a couple of seasons, “Star Trek” (1967-69) has become one of the most famous of all TV shows while making cultural impact. The series has transcended from cult favorite to legendary status with a fan following unlike any other. Creator-producer Gene Roddenberry wanted to hire well known movie composer Jerry Goldsmith to do the theme but he turned down the job. Goldsmith suggested Alexander Courage who had composed the TV themes for “Daniel Boone” and “Lost in Space.” The rest is history. To hear the iconic theme signals to go boldly where no man has ever gone before.

He picked the right guy to compose it. Glad he didn't mix up his Daniel Boone and Lost in Space compositions. But seriously, that theme is so perfect for space travel. Courage nailed it
