It was a great day! I stopped by the office to check e-mails (because for some reason they won't load on my Mac) and the boss was there. He told me when I would be going back to work and said that everything was cleared for me to get unemployment until I return! How cool! Let's celebrate with another song from my favorites that were used in commercials.
#3: Rocket Man - Elton John
Not only is this a terrific song, this is one of my favorite commercials. From the brains at Volkswagen, who gave us such diversity as "Fly By Night" by Rush and "Another Day, Another Dollar" by Wynn Stewart, this Elton John classic was used in a scenario that took the "misheard lyrics" to about as crazy an extreme as you could.
Various scenes are presented with people singing along with "Rocket Man"'s chorus of, "Rocket man, burning out his fuse up here alone" in various, hilarious, misheard ways: "cheap cologne," "my hair is gone," "this useless telephone," etc. Finally, in the Passat the song plays and the actual lyrics are clear as day (ha, what a lie).
The commercial is hilarious. The song is classic.

Being a big Elton John fan, my ears perked up immediately when this commercial came on. Made me laugh every time.

I don't remember the commercial but I've always loved the song. I love that classics are being reintroduced to the newer generations :)
