Do people actually help others without an ulterior motive?

Have you ever wondered if people who assist other people out of the blue have an ulterior motive or are just true to heart? For me I like to believe there is still good in the world but I cannot seem to stop thinking...What is the catch? Has our world come to this? It kind of makes me sad. How does it make you feel?

People in general are neither this nor that. You find good people and bad ones everywhere. Welcome to myLot. Enjoy the site! The first step for all newbies is to read the Guidelines to learn what is allowed or not on the site. Then you can write a post introducing yourself. Tell us a bit about yourself. Furthermore, read around as much as you can, Like and Comment on other members' posts. Only then will members come to your site and do the same. This is called interaction. Don't expect too much money-wise. If you reach $5 a month (the payout limit), you can call yourself lucky.

Thankyou for extending yourself in welcoming a newbie! I use to be on this site many moons ago. I am so glad it still exists! Do you find this relaxing? I know I do. Once again thanks.

@MelA38 Yes, myLotting is relaxing. Is there a special reason why you haven't mentioned your country on your account page?

That is most definitely one way to look at it. Even if there is a method to their madness honesty is the best policy!

I try to be helpful whenever I can. For example, if someone has something stuck to their shoe, I'll tell them. There's no ulterior motive in that.

One sign people have no hidden agendas is when they give or donate anonymously.

It makes me sad as well. Yesterday we were at walmart and a lady asked us if we had $17. She needed a car part and needed $17 more. My husband and I didn't know if we should believe her story or not. We did give her the money though because God cares where our heart is when we give-it doesn't matter what the receiver does with it.

You put the gesture of goid faith forward. In my heart I believe it was for the car part. All i lnow is believe until proven otherwise. Right after 2 guys attacked me last year I was taken to a hospital 30 miles away. I did not feel safe. This lady gave me a 100 bill to get home. I was flabbergasted. Wow!

Not always, there are some people who go all out to help others without expecting anything back..

I find nothing wrong if we have an ulterior motive in helping others. "Altruism" should not form the basis of judging a "good" or "bad" person. If by my action it helps both of us and doesn't harm either. Having said that I believe empathy is a trait which all humans have (excepting psychopaths and sociopaths). When we see someone in a dire situation we instinctively want to offer aid or assistance.

If I have extra money toy spare I like to help people out. If in the mood I like to give people discounts when they buy from me and other times I do not. It depends on my mood and how many people ask for discouts. I am trying to get rid of things I have not sold and have had for quite some time so decided to lower the prices and someone bought two things from me last week and asked for a discount and gave her one. I also believe that there are those that give because they want to find favor in G-d's eyes.

Nope, moast people expect some favor in return for helping out. Maybe only a small percentage did as a good deed, hoping God will remember them.

We need to help people whenever we can without any expectations. Forget whom we helped and remember who helped us forever.
