Digging On Our Street

Woke up to a terrible noise this morning and found out that the city is digging something on our street. Tons and tons of dust right now. You can be sure that I will not open the windows today. I do not want all this stuff to come in. Even our neighbors went for a walk wearing masks to protect themselves. I wish the city had warned us in advance. I do not like days like this at all but it can't be stop.

Oh dear that is not pleasant at all for you Marlina. So sorry they are having to do this right now. And did they even let anyone know the were going to do it, probably not.

They did road digging during winter, they avoid to create dust in summer and anyway no road works are allowed during the first 15 days of August, unless there is something urgent that need attention.

@marlina People keep the windows open in summer, it's not the best season to create unwanted dust.

@Marty1 The first of August is Swiss National Day and all the public workers get their 15 days vacations. This is one of the reason why there are no road workers the first two weeks of August. Another reason is that we have million of tourists coming here in the south in August and our roads are narrow and it would be a real pain to cope with tourists, road works, dust and heat.

Not a good noise to wake up to. They should of posted a sign about the upcoming work so all would be prepared. That is what they do here most of the time.

You would expect them to warn you about something like that. Very inconvenient for you.

They are usually more polite and inform us in advance. But we have no choice but putting up with it right now.

@jaboUK Thanks, yes, I am interested. They seem to have the same problem than mine had years ago. We can't even buy them here anymore. I sure miss those.

@marlina Btw, I thought you might be interested to see what's happening to some of my impatiens. Some of them in the garden are dying, but the ones in the baskets and pots are ok so far.

@amadeo, Yes, they usually do inform us before. But I guess I should not complain too much as in the scheme of things, it is a very minor inconvenience.

Hope all that digging doesn't go on for days. The noise and dust is nasty when they are doing work like that.

I am sure if you call them they would tell you they sent a notice out and act surprised that you didn't receive it. They did the same thing to us and hen we asked what was going on it was "didn't you get the notice?" What notice?

That is awful that the home owners weren't even advised. I stopped in to visit a niece today, and her street was all torn up with dump trucks and big machinery all over the place, but the city advised them.

That was not very well planned from them, I would have stayed indoors. They sound as inconsiderate as our power company. I hope they are finished soon.

I hope they finish quickly whatever they are doing. The city has been working all summer on my daughter's street. I need to take a different route getting to her driveway. When I was there yesterday, it looks like they will be pouring the concrete soon.
