If I pay my bus fare others should too

I've seen this happen many a time... A person gets on the bus, swipes his/her MetroCard to pay for the ride, but either the card is empty or it doesn't have enough money on it for the full fare. Instead of telling the passenger to get off the bus, the bus driver just lets the person go through and ride for free. Sometimes a person gets on the bus and doesn't have money on the MetroCard or enough coins to pay for the fare. He/she holds up a few dollar bills and tells the bus driver he/she is going to get change from the passengers and then pay his/her fare. The bus driver just lets the person through. Some people actually end up getting change from others and pay their fare, while others do not and end up riding for free. Whenever any of this happens I get pretty upset. Before getting on the bus a person has to make sure that he/she has enough money on the MetroCard, or enough change in his/her pocket, to pay the full fare. There is no excuse for not having enough money to pay the fare. And if a person gets a free ride then I should get a free ride too because that person is no different than me and should not get special treatment.

Why would you let them ride? Unless maybe it was an elderly person or someone who is handicapped I don't think people should get a free ride because it is not fair to those that actually paid their fare..

@Courtlynn Of course I don't ride the bus to get mad when someone gets a pass and rides for free, but it is upsetting when I see it happen, especially when I don't have a job right now. When someone ends up getting a free ride it makes me wonder if I came in with no money for the fare if I'd get a free ride too or if I'd be told to get off the bus.

@lovebuglena I'm just too kind and would. Not a big deal to me. But i also dont take the bus to have to pay and get mad over it when people do go free. So i guess its just different to me.

All good reasons why not to ride a bus.

I don't drive so the only way for me to get around is a bus or a subway.

it makes you wonder if some passengers do them on purpose to get a free ride, while the bus driver just wants to pick up and drop off passengers as quickly as possible and not bother about anything else.

Who knows. Perhaps some do it to get a free ride. I will say though, it can be upsetting if you pay for a bus fare but are five or ten cents short and the driver tells you to get off the bus. Didn't happen to me but it did happen to someone I know.
