Only 800 to Go!

I make it no secret that I love to ride my bike, and am obsessed with the sport of cycling. This morning, I got a ride in. I only went 11 miles, but that 11 miles put me over 200 miles for the summer (I got a late start this year.) I am now ranked 1840 on bikejournal.com, a free website into which I input my stats. It was an uneventful ride. I saw no wildlife whatsoever. In fact, about the only noticeable thing was that there were a lot of guys on mountain bikes. Usually, it's almost always people on road bikes. Because I did start so late this year, it's realistic that I might not hit my annual goal of at least 1000 miles for the year. That doesn't mean that I'm giving up. It's going to mean riding consistently, and longer rides, which I like. In fact, I prefer 25-35 mile rides. So I'll be plugging away. The photo was taken the day I purchased the bike, seven years ago in Sheridan, Wyoming. Hard to believe I've had it that long!

@jaboUK - I didn't really know how far I've ridden this particular bike. I had to look it up.

Impressive. My last bike ride was 30 miles out and 30 miles back in. I was on a 3 speed touring bike. I really liked it. Had basket in front, and rear double basket in back. Lights, horn, rear view mirrors and all that. I miss that bike. It was actually a Western Flyer bike. From Western Auto Home and Auto store when they used to exist in our area of the city. I think they went under though.
Founded in 1909 by George Pepperdine, Western Auto Supply Company consisted of a chain of automotive parts stores. However, Western Auto Supply started expanding its business with other products and stores in 1921 and eventually entered the bicycle industr

60 miles is impressive. My longest ride ever was just 57. That was a good ride.

It seems to me that bikes last a long time. What parts are likely to wear first? And if you're doing a lot of riding, how long do your tyres last?

@teamfreak16 we went through one of the Tour de France places yesterday. I'm sure it was Valloire. There are dozens of bikes in this area. We went over Col de Galibier and many cyclists were puffing their way up and over this point. I hope they had enough energy to enjoy the scenery .

I usually can get a couple years out of my tires. I'll have to buy new ones next year. Brake pads, chains, chainrings, and rear cassettes wear out eventually.

@JudyEv - They often include the Galibier on the Tour. Were there names painted on the road?
