No Parking Overnight!

Tourist authorities must put a great deal of thought into designing signs that convey a message without having to resort to the use of language. And sometimes the choice of language is interesting too. In outback Australia a number of signs were in English and German; some even had symbols which might have been Japanese. I liked this one which conveyed very clearly that motor-homes couldn’t stay overnight in the car park. We haven’t done much free camping. Last night we parked in an ‘Aire’, a designated ‘safe’ area which has limited facilities. To get a ticket to raise the barrier so we could drive in, we had to go through quite a rigmarole. Halfway through we had to put what country we were from but they obviously hadn’t heard of Australia as that wasn’t an option. We could see a nice-looking building which we thought would be toilets at least and maybe even showers but it turned to be neither. At least we did have power but for just a few euro more we could have had many more facilities at a ‘proper’ campsite just next door. You live and learn I guess. But don’t you like my sign?

I like signs that do not need text, but only IF it is evident what the message is.

Thought France let people sleeping in their parks any time? (From what Topffer mentioned in one of his discussions). A pity that some places caused you trouble only because you come from Australia .

Some carparks seem to allow camping but not this particular one. And I guess there aren't many visitors from Australia so they didn't think of adding it to their list.

Signs! There are those that are pretty clear and there are those that aren't.

It's very clear isn't it? Sometimes people camp in parking areas and the authorities usually try to clamp down on them doing this.

It wasn't really a big deal. We should have checked more carefully.

That sign gets its blunt message across quite nicely without words.

This sign can be easily understood. Yes when it comes to camping/holidaying we always learn. Sorry to hear that you had to camp at such a place where there were limited facilities.

We should have checked more carefully but the building looked just like a sanitation block. By the time we got inside the area we had already paid our money. But it was all fine really.

Sign language can be the easiest to understand. I hope you have better luck tonight.

Mini golf is so much fun @JudyEv I used to go with a friend of mine and her son and I'd always get stuck at the one with the mini windmill.

We're in a very nice place now thanks. We've played bocce and had a game of mini-golf so it's all good.

@rebelann We gave up on a couple of holes. Luckily we're not hugely competitive.

I think my country needs this. Some drivers park their vehicles in certain places that it shouldn't be supposed to.

@JudyEv I agree. Some people lack discipline and so arrogant to park anywhere they wanted.

When there are no signs people seem to think it is okay to park in some very strange places.

Clever signs indeed. If the option 'Australia' isn't given, you can always tick 'Austria'. *Nearly* the same. :-)

That's very true but we do have an Irish phone number so we opted for Ireland. They had all sorts of other obscure (to me) countries.
