While we were in the Gironde region of south-western France we visited an animal park. One of the very attractive birds at the park was the bar-headed goose which breeds in Central Asia and winters in South Asia. It is pale grey in colour with black bars on the head.
It is popular as a captive bird as it is very attractive and breeds readily. It is also sociable and when we saw it it was happily integrated with other water-birds. At the moment its conservation status is listed as of ‘least concern’ which is good as it is a very pretty bird. And once again, Vince has taken a lovely head shot of it.

I've never seen that pretty of a goose. Here they are just plain old geese.

Some geese are used as guards in some properties as they can be quite vicious!

My Mum always said a blow from a goose's wing could break your arm. They certainly let you know when there are strangers around.

Occasionally you come across a bird that is very distinctive.

Thank you. We saw a poor little pony in a paddock along the way and its hooves were really overgrown. I should have taken a photo of its hooves but it has obviously been foundered and is not being treated. But sometimes there isn't much you can do.
