Favorite "Direction" Songs #1 - "East on the West Road"

It's time to put another music countdown to bed, as we are at #1 in my Favorite "Direction" Songs series, which is songs with "north," "south," "east," or "west" in the title. The top spot goes to "East on the West Road" by Emperor's New Clothes. In the acid jazz world, anything goes, and "East on the West Road" is no exception. The band, led by Andy Knight (horns and sax) and bassist Luke Hannum, added a good amount of trippy dub action to their jazz sound, an instrumental that, honestly makes for some great stoner music. The band made two studio and one live album for the Acid Jazz label, after which they seem to have fallen off of the face of the earth. Which is too bad, as they are one of my favorite acid jazz bands. If you choose to listen, be sure to focus on Hannum's groovy bass line, that, along with the dub effects, make the tune almost hypnotic. Enjoy! (Info verified by Artist Direct)

Yes, that is a great bass part. Very eclectic variations within the same song. But, as you said, anything goes, and it all sounds good. Great series!!

It's the dub elements that do it. Of course, I love dub.
