Someone Committed Fraud On My Account

I check my checking account balance usually every day. Today I was doing so and noticed a charge that I had no idea what it was. And for $39.95 no less. For a poor person that is quite a bit. Especially at the second part of the month. Just one more thing for me to stress over. Trying not to. I called my bank and the nice young man told me I would need to cancel my present debit card and then they will issue me a new one. That makes sense and they have done that before when I had an issue. I am just tired from no sleep and not thinking straight, if at all. I can't cancel the debit card now. I need it. I may have to pay for my ride home, we are going to need a few things at the store tonight or tomorrow. I takes a week or so for the new card to get here. Sometimes less if I am lucky. I am going to take some money out of my account so I have it on hand. Then I will call them later and have them cancel the card and issue me another one. I sure hope whoever used my account enjoyed him or herself. Grrr!

@DaddyEvil ......I haven't done it yet. I just got out of the hospital yesterday and it wouldn't have time to get here before Friday when I get my monthly SSI. So I am going to try to get everything paid for as quickly as I can and then do it. I hope there isn't a certain amount of time I have to do it in or anything. I just have too many responsibilities first thing in the month that I have to pay out and it wouldn't give the new card time enough to get to me.

That is why I don't have a debit card, I have an ATM card and a credit card but I don't want anyone having access to my checking account.

@Marty1 .......A debit card is just a card that is associated with your checking account. It can only be used to buy off that account. It can be used as a ATM card and you can get money out of your account.

It sounds as if he or she fell for some online scam to purchase this or that. It couldn't be your daughter or her boyfriend, could it?

I hope they are caught, it's frustrating to have that kind of hassle. How the hell they were able to do that? Did you go the ATMs lately? there must be some scheme device on the ATM machine.

Rarely go to the ATM. Just use the debit exclusively so I don't have to carry cash.

@Marty1 .....I've have read about that. They can even use this device at distances too. It is smart to have a wallet that has the material that won't let them get the code through it.

You would think if someone was using your account you would see more transactions on your account. did you try and find out where they used and card and what they purchased?

In many transactions all you need is the number of the card. Like ordering food over the phone.

I don't understand how some people can do this. Steal people's id and card info and such. It makes no sense to me. Hopefully, you are able to get a new one soon.

I would take money out of the ATM and then cancel the card. Dis. card tole me 7-10 for my new card after I was 'taken' but it came in much faster than that.

Yeah, I was just going over in my mind where I had used it lately. Ordering over the phone for food.
