Day 5 Song of Solomon 5 Song of Solomon 5:1 I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved. 2 I sleep, but my heart wakes: it is the voice of my beloved that knocks, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night. 3 I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them? 4 My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him. 5 I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock. 6 I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spoke: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. 7 The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me. 8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love. 9 What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? What is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so charge us? 10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chief among ten thousand. 11 His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, and black as a raven. 12 His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set. 13 His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh. 14 His hands are as gold rings set with the beryl: his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires. 15 His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance is as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars. 16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem. Every marriage goes through a time of difficulty. Arguments ensue, feelings and emotions are aroused, and you turn your back on the one you claim to love with all your heart and you withhold from him or her the one thing they desire most – your love. Solomon showed that no marriage is a perfect one, yet he also showed hope that the relationship can be mended. Love knows what you look like. He penned a perfect description of himself in his beloved’s eyes. As Christians, Jesus knows you too. Intimately, every feature, every nuance of your personality. There is nothing hid from him, and he cries out for you to return to him. John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. (KJV) You can get so caught up in the cares of this world, you forget your love for God, and the zeal of your new birth, and you let the world carry you away with it until it is a dim light in your life. You still love the Lord. You still go to church and fellowship with other believers, but your heart isn’t in it. Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things says he that holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2 I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. God’s love for you is the same as it was when he created you in your mother’s womb. It is the same as it was when you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. It will be the same tomorrow. God’s love never fails. It is you who strays from him, with concerns that take you away from God. However, he has never left your side. He longs for your fellowship, your love, your zeal, your hunger for his presence in your life. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (KJV) Will you open the door and let Jesus in? Or will you wait until he leaves, and then feel remorse as you set out to seek him with all your heart, realizing how much you love him? Let’s pray: Father, help me keep the door open for your love to enter. Give me a new zeal for you. Do not let me be so concerned with the world that I forget you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
