The Unlikely Happened

My brother in law went into the hospital Tuesday to have valve surgery. It was a simple procedure and he expected to come home the next day. The surgery went well and all was normal but he couldn't wake up. They watched him all day. He could answer questions. He knew where he was but he was so sleepy he would immediately go back to sleep.
His doctors did tests yesterday and told my sister he had had a stroke although it was unlikely, he could possibly wake up today. If not he would be transferred to a nursing home. You can imagine how devastated my sister was. But the unlikely happened. He woke up this morning. Not remembering anything that happened, thinking he had just come out of surgery. He will have to remain in the hospital for therapy but doesn't know yet. My sister is waiting for the doctors to tell him. It was only a light stroke.

I´m glad that it was only a light stroke. It could have been very serious.

@RubyHawk When people have light strokes, they can go on with their normal life again.

@marguicha That's true sometimes the effects are unnoticeable. They will know tomorrow if he requires therapy. I talked to my sister this morning and she told me the good news.

I was in the hospital for a surgery a little less than two years ago, and I had trouble waking up from the anesthesia. No matter how hard the doctors and nurses tried to get me to wake up, I just kept falling right back asleep. They said they were concerned, but when I finally did wake up fully I told them I was having the best dreams and didn't want to come out of la-la land!
But glad to heat that the brother in law came through.

@RubyHawk At this point, he may not remember them. I kept getting mad at the nurse after my surgery, because she kept repeating the same instructions over and over and over again. I told her I was not an idiot, i remembered everything she told me the first time she said it. She told me to wait and see, and then kept repeating the information over and over again. Literally, five minutes after I was checked out of the hospital to go home, I couldn't remember anything she told me! haha
Apparently, once the anesthesia wears off you can't remember anything that happened while you were sedated.

@moffittjc I think you're right. I've had serious surgeries and I knew I wasn't remembering everything.
