My daughter's on again off again boyfriend texted me to see what she was doing. The photo I've published is my answer and his reaction. I actually asked him if I could laugh after I explained what I meant. He hasn't responded. I think he's either pissed or too embarrassed. I mean, he's 30, USA born and raised. He's NEVER heard this phrase? Not once? And since we don't have a fireplace, why would we even HAVE logs??

I thought she was chopping firewood, but I'm justified. It got me so confused I ended up thinking a club sandwich had to do with the object above.

ROFLMAO! That'd be like my father's knuckle sandwich. I don't know why they're called club, but they're double decker sandwiches on toast with bacon, lettuce and tomato plus the lunch meat you want.

@jerzgirl Wow, I've just learned two new terms/expressions in a few minutes! Not Yet Ex is an interesting name, might steal that idea in the future.

@DesirousDreamer I don't know - I grew up with it and grew up with it depicted in cartoons (you know the ones with a picture of the log being sawed over their heads and the falling log wakes them up), so I have been surprised it's not more widely known. I've got a cousin in Scottsdale and another in Glendale. The one's daughter just started college at NAU.

@jerzgirl Haha, I am normally pretty good at knowing sayings, maybe it is more of a regional thing.

Sawing logs could mean sleeping and snoring, yes after eating a club sandwich

There you go. That's what I meant. He knows she sleeps a lot because she works hard all week and on weekends her fibromyalgia really kicks her butt.

Nah - the boy is clueless. LOL I don't like the way he treats my daughter, so I have a bit of a prejudice, but I'm nice to him when he's being mature. Mostly, though, he's not.

That's what I thought, too, but as you can see by other responses, it has apparently been lost over time.

He watches movies and television. It can't be that difficult to have seen it. It's even in cartoons!! (sleeping people with logs being sawed above their heads and one half falls and hits them)

Have you ever watched a cartoon with someone sleeping in the cartoon and above their head is a log being sawed in half, but half of it falls onto the sleeping person and wakes them up?? That's sawing logs, but they add comedy to the image.

I don't know. It just blew my mind that he took it literally. I mean - logs????? She has sawn boards before for projects with her jig saw, but logs???? That right there was a big "huh"?
