Happy Eclipse Day!

Happy eclipse day Mylot!   Have you ever seen a solar eclipse?   I did but it was some number of years back.   It was truly a special thing.  This was the 1990s at some point.  I was a teenager (which by now feels like a million years ago) - and we lived on the farm that I grew up on from the ages of 11 to 26.   The first thing I noticed was how dark it got, like night at noon.  Also like at night the temperature dropped.  The air got still and everything got quiet , the birds and animals got really still and quiet.  There was a type of beetle like bug out (bright pink and teal) and a brilliant lime green snake - the latter of which I hadn't seen before or since.  Nature freaked out over the eclipse.  I hope you can enjoy this solar eclipse, it just happened here -- though because it is overcast and raining I didn't really see much of anything other than a slight darkening of the sky. I'm happy they filmed it at different locals where it was visible. Eclipse info:

This particular eclipse isn't visible in my part of the world although I have seen previous solar eclipses as well.

@FayeHazel saw online that the next one in the States is on 2024. In the Philippines there are a couple of total and partial lunar eclipses in 2018 and 2019.

I caught it on tv, from Sky Tv's broadcast in Oregon. It was already after 7pm by me, it was breathtaking. :)

@bluesa Looks like the 2024 Eclipse will travel in the opposite diagonal across the USA - though it still manages to avoid my state, lol

I have not seen a full solar eclipse only partial eclipse. We see the reflection of the sun on the water and use candy wrappers to protect our eyes

The reflection would be beautiful! Also I've heard a technique where you punch a hole in a piece of paper, lay another piece of paper on the ground - and watch the shadow

@TiarasOceanView That's pretty good... here it was supposed to be... something 86% I want to say, though it wasn't too impressive thanks to cloud cover

We took a hike up Mt. Diablo to watch one a few years ago. Those weird shadows/reverse images through the trees were cool.

I've seen a variety of eclipses. Today was only 68%. It was still eerie.

You're lucky to have seen them. Even if there's eclipse here we wouldn't see it because of the storm.
