Favorite Gary Moore Songs #4 - "Out in the Fields"

Rather than going with a theme with this particular music countdown, my Favorite Gary Moore Songs series celebrates the life of my favorite guitarist, Gary Moore. We are at #4: "Out in the Fields." Gary Moore and Thin Lizzy leader Phil Lynott began a lifelong friendship in their teens, and often collaborated together (Moore even did two stints in Thin Lizzy) during their lifetime's. "Out in the Fields" is one of the pair's best efforts. A single from Moore's 1985 album, Run for Cover, "Out in the Fields" is a protest song, and it's a damn fine one, pulling no punches in it's treatment of the conflict in their native Northern Ireland (the anti-war song contains one of my all-time favorite lyrics: "No color or religion ever stopped a bullet from a gun.") The song performed quite well (in Europe. It was, as always, largely ignored over here, although I did see the video once on MTV,) peaking at #3 in Ireland and #5 in the UK. It was the highest that either Moore or Lynott would ever chart, with or without Thin Lizzy. I have always had a fondness for protest songs. This one is an all-time favorite. Enjoy! I wonder if Moore and Lynott had any influence on fellow Irish Bono and U2.

Protesting for the right causes is wonderful. I've never heard of the song and pretty much listen to a lot of music which are from the 90's but will listen to 80's music. Have a blessed and wonderful evening.
