1995 – Barbour Press One of the most repulsive children’s books I have ever seen. I remember having a children’s Bible among my childhood presents (I was raised as a Roman Catholic). It won’t have been this book, but there are many variations. This is a particularly bad one. The author, Partner, doesn’t even put his name on the front cover, but tucks it away in small print on the back and on inside flyleaves, as if ashamed of it himself. I also wondered why he couldn’t squeeze in just one extra story for leap years. The stories are highly selective and one page per story, skipping more sordid details like slavery and Jesus killing a herd of pigs for no reason. The stories are totally uncritical of their subject, and in reading one every night to an impressionable child there is no time for a year for other bedtime stories such as The Three Bears or anything by Hans Christian Anderson. Each story ends with two question but they are just simple comprehension questions that see if the listening child was paying attention rather than questions as to the morality of God killing lots of people. If this book is used in the spirit intended it isn’t educating children but indoctrinating and brainwashing them. Horrible, horrible book. Arthur Chappell

I remember we had a Bible stories and I loved the coloured plates...Including one of Joseph's multicoloured coat. And one of Samson and Delilah...They were just stories for me nothing religious as I am a Hindu Also had a 365 bedtime stories book but that was full of fairies and animals....Must have been born a bookworm But now I wonder what about the extra day in a leap year too

Brainwashing at it's finest. I'm glad I was never forced to read such rubbish.

I was unaware that a story comprised just one page. There are lots of books out there that indoctrinate and brainwash not just children but adults too.

I would imagine the only children to have and read such books would be of the church-going variety anyway. I had a lot of religious 'bedtime' books when I was little. I still have some of them, even now. I have always just looked on them as stories, even as a child.
