Do You Have Any Superstitions?

I have to say that I do not have any superstitions, but I have known several people who do. What are some of the oddest superstitions you have ever heard of? Once I had a person who was riding in the car with me. We were stopped at a traffic light to allow a long line of cars in a funeral to pass by. I started to count the cars and she yelled at me. “Stop, don’t you know that if you count the cars in a funeral, someone you love will die?” I had never heard of such a thing. Have you?

I've never heard that superstition before but when I was a teenager I had a friend whose parents came here from Russia. She told me her mother told her not to look in the mirror at night before going to bed because doing so would allow the devil to come out of the mirror while she was asleep. Creepy.

So, that superstition, "looking in the mirror at night before going to bed" seems to be more common than I would have thought. I have never heard of it though.

@deazil I'm not superstitious either. But that certainly would be weird to see, wouldn't it?

My mom was a very superstitious woman. She never agreed to have our family photos taken as it means one of us will get killed. The one time she did, she and my father were murdered. Now do I believe it has something to do with our family picture taken? Not at all. Not a really superstitious person either.

@IreneVincent Hope you don't mind if I don't retell the story again. I've told it too many times here on mylot already. They were murdered when I was 13.

@IreneVincent Every morning the first word I write with my pen is "Ram",which is a very popular name of God for us Hindus. I think if I don't do so, something evil will happen with me.

@IreneVincent We actually believe in one God.All our gods are manifestations of that one God.Our ancient sages say,"Ekam sat vipra bahudha vadanti".God is one, people reach Him through different paths. All paths ( all religions ) lead us human beings to the same destination.

@IreneVincent Interesting. But we don't believe in false prophets.Hinduism is not a religion. It's a way of life. Our faith in Ram or Krishna does not prohibit us from having faith in Jesus. We bow our heads when we pass from in front of any place of worship,be it a temple,a mosque or a church. What you have said is what you believe in.We believe in what our sages and scriptures say.Sorry to differ.

That's interesting. Isn't it true that the Hindu religion has many gods. Why is "Ram" the most important for you? Just curious.
