What I did in the 2012 eclipse

Japan

Living in Japan, I could not see any of the eclipse that Americans were so excited about. But I still have my special glasses from 5/21/2012 when we had an annular eclipse at about 7:30 in the morning. My school wanted to encourage kids to be able to watch the eclipse and also to be on time for school at 8:30, so we invited all students and parents to bring a breakfast picnic and hang out on the large playground, where we could see the eclipse perfectly. I could see it creeping up on us as I rode my bike to school, and then we all stood in the playground and watched. The school had bought a lot of safe glasses so kids were able to use them, and adults shared them around. My friend borrowed mine so he could put them over his camera lens to take a picture. In the same year we had a lunar eclipse around midnight. Have you experienced any eclipses, even if it was not this latest one?

This was a very creative way of dealing with the eclipse. Very clever.

That is a great way to get students and their parents involved. I have seen some in the past.
