I'm Glad I Kept My Door Locked

A few minutes ago, at about 11 pm in my country, I was surfing the web while listening to a radio rock show on my headphones when all of a sudden I had the impression that I heard some noises on the corridor next to my door. At first, I didn't pay too much attention, but the noise continued and eventually I put my headphones down and realized that there was someone trying to open my door! Luckily, the door was locked, so there was no way he could enter, but that unwanted visitor didn't seem to understand that as he kept on attempting to open the door with his key. I was stunned for a few seconds, but then I went to the door and looked out on the peephole to see who I was dealing with: there was a man probably in his fifties, whom I didn't recognize. At first I thought about calling the police, but then it crossed my mind that maybe he was probably tipsy after a little Friday night party and he didn't realize he was at the wrong door, so I asked him loudly what he wanted. He seemed surprised to hear me because he realized that he was trying to open the wrong door, and eventually he apologized and moved on in search for the right address. I have to say that it was the first time I have experienced such an event since I own my flat, and I have learnt a lesson from it: Up until now I used to let my door unlocked from time to time at least when I was at home during day time(but never at night), but after this experience I will certainly keep my door locked all the time! Do you leave your front door open every once in a while? How would you react if all of sudden someone tried to break in your house? And if you have ever gone through through an adventure close to the one I have just had, can you describe how you felt?

In my neck of the woods we never have our doors open unless we are going out or coming in.

That is certainly the right thing to do.
