We did something this afternoon that we seldom do..We watched an old movie starring Betty Davis and James Cagney. It's weird to see the fashions, their manner of speaking, and how carefully they hinted at sex without actually showing anything.
I don't remember the name of the movie but I did see it was made in 1941. Sometime ago I saw a Betty Davis movie made at a later date that I liked. "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" Also James Cagney in "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" I like some of the serial shows from a few year back but I'm not really an old movie buff? I actually I enloyed sitting with my better half and watching an old movie today. Do you like old movies?

I think that most of the old movies are far better than the new ones. And Bette Davies and James Cagney were two great actors.

@RubyHawk The new ones have more special effects. But that´s all.

@marguicha Another thing that bothers me about new movies is the sound quality isn't good. Sound was always clear in old movies.

The only old movie I saw and really liked was Gone With the Wind. I have seen that movie more than three times I think. I've also read the book.

@RubyHawk I wasn't aware of that book. It was my father who introduced the movie to us and the book as well. My father loved reading novels. That's why one of my sisters was named Scarlet after Scarlet O'Hara of Gone with the Wind.

So have I. I don't know how many times I've seen the movie and I've read the book. I have it in my library. I couldn't wait to see the new book, "Scarlet" that was supposed to continue the story and I was horrified. One of the worst books I've ever read.

@toniganzon That is so neat. I've never known anyone named Scarlet and that's surprising since the book was popular all over. Does your sister like her name?I think it's a lovely name.

We love old movies and try to catch one as often as they are available. You are right @RubyHawk, it is weird to see the fashions, etc. We are hoping to see Casablanca this week.

Yes, I love old movies. My mother and I watched I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy last summer and I took videos of her enjoying the music and the movie. It was apparently her favorite and she watched it every year in July. I'm so glad I have the videos. The movie is EXCELLENT!

Yes I love old movies. Most are so much better than today's unimaginative ones. They are so good Hollywood keeps making remakes of them. Of course, most times they are never as good. The Baby Jane one was terrific. Most if not all of James Cagney's movies are classics. Humphrey Bogart and Jimmy Stewart are other movie actors whose work in movies are supreme! If "Rear Window" ever is playing check that one out. Grace Kelley co-stars. Turner Classic Movies shows them all the time!

TCM rocks! Nobody was ever tougher on screen than Cagney. Well maybe Bogie. Those guys would spit out today's so-called tough guys. You have seen White Heat?

@JohnRoberts Yes, Cagney at his best tough guy persona! Having grown up around that environment he just nails those roles! "Top of the World.!"

I look for Yankee Doodle Dandy on the Fourth of July on TCM. I now have it saved on my DVR so I can watch it any time. I do like watching old movies. I saw one today - The Music Man with Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. Seeing all those fashions and yes the mannerisms even what they considered bad phraseology is so mild compared to today.

You must have caught part of TCM's James Cagney festival. They are showing his movies today. I have seen them all.
