School picture day: opinions?

What do you think of school picture day? Ours (two days actually) are Monday and Tuesday next week. I have been having my picture taken at school every year since first grade through 37th year of teaching (except for college and grad school.) I have always hated picture day, and about half the time I forget and don't dress nicely for it. Sometimes I wonder why the schools think it's a good idea to take pictures because a lot of students don't like them. It is helpful for memories, such as yearbooks, and identifying students for teachers who haven't learned all the names quite yet. Our school also does an ID card for each student because they can use them when they buy train passes, for our library and lunch room and so forth. Did you love or hate picture days? What about the school pictures of your kids? What do you think of having a school picture day?

Well I always hated picture day but I had never liked the way I look when I was a child lol One time my younger middle sister shaved her eyebrow the night before (she was about 7 yrs old) omg and the photo was so funny of her. I would love to see every one of your pictures for 37 yrs Denise..I bet you look so beautiful in them.

Haha, I always looked really terrible, because either my hair was static or I wore something that matched the background (white on white so it looked like a head by itself!)

@petatonicsca As an adult, we have to put up with alot. Though, as a kid, we did too because we had no choice in many things. Lol.

Here the students have to wear school uniforms for picture day. Actually in high school they have to wear school uniforms all the time. Sometimes if the teachers are nice, they will take photos for them for any special moments and share with the parents and therefore we know what's going on in school.

Japanese schools middle and high school levels have uniforms. Only private schools have them for elementary. Our school is independent and we don't have uniforms, but we do have choir and band outfits, sports uniforms and such.

I haven't had mine taken since 1969, back then I didn't care one way or another, I knew I wouldn't look all that great anyway.

I don't know why my elementary never did that. We just had individual pictures. I have pictures of my mom and dad in their elementary schools with teachers. (My dad's school was only two rooms!)

We were not obliged to have our photo taken at school, only those who liked. I never had my photo taken.

I don't like picture days. I'm not satisfied with how I look in pictures. Sometimes they are not perfect

Mine are never perfect. I get all embarrassed and my smile looks fake, probably because it is.

I do love taking photos. It is how we captured the moment.

I'm still not excited about it. But maybe since I have talked about it, I will remember to wear something nice next Monday.

I think it is a good way to archive our memories.
