Go With the Flow and Learn From Others

My models wanted to use a bottle of wine as a prop.

One of the most difficult aspects of portraiture for me is posing people. Making them feel natural and comfortable in front of the camera so I can get the exact photo, emotion, and response that I want. I worry a lot about what exactly I'm going to do with a model posing-wise when I go out for a photoshoot, and this weekend I learned sometimes it's good just go with the flow. I had two models who, spur of the moment, decided that wanted to take a photo with a bottle of wine. This is something I'd never considered doing, and we ended up getting a pretty killer shot as shown above this post. By letting others share their ideas of what they wanted to do, I now have another trick in my photography tool kit: a bottle of wine! Have you ever been stressed about something, and just decided to take things as they came, or "wing it", and found out that the results weren't nearly as bad as you'd thought they'd be?
