Half Broke Horses

That's a book I m reading by Jeannette Walls. A story of her grandmothers life growing up on a ranch in Texas, helping on the ranch and breaking horses. Lily was a big raw boned girl and looked older than her age.
I've only read a few chapters but it's the kind of book I like. It reminds me of Laura Engels and Little House on the Priarie but Laura's story is much tamer than Lily's.
When she was fifteen Lily rode her half broke horse five hundred miles to apply for a job as a teacher. No roads or trails, she stopped along the way to talk to people and ask for directions.
People matured earlier in those days but its still unimaginable how a young girl could survive five hundred miles of travel across untamed country on a half broke horse. Lily gets the job and her story continues.
I'm enjoying the read, if you like this kind of book, you will too.

@RubyHawk Cool, Me too, when they do them right. I think they make the best stories.

@crossbones27 Nothing romantic, just a hard working young woman trying to get ahead.

That sounds like a book I'd like to read. I've said many times if I could go back in life I'd like to grow up on a ranch

It's a great read! I read it awhile back when it first came out. I remember taking it with me to my husbands doctor appointment and the doctor mentioned his wife was reading it and loved it.
