My musical journey tour

An insight into my musical journey starts with, well, Journey!  As far back as I can remember, every Sunday, it was cleaning day in my house. My mom would bring out her stack of 45s, records and a few cassettes and fire up the 7 piece stereo (included the big kahonkin speakers) let the music spin. Oh the music was great and quite diverse. Started off with Van Halen-Jump, Queen Another one Bites the Dust (on 45, no less) Bob Seger - Hollywood Nights, Steve Perry - Oh Sherrie, Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes, Laura Branigan-Gloria, Cher-I Paralyze, Black Rose - Never Should've Started, Tanya Tucker - blind Love.  Then moving onto the oldies, like Del Shannon-Runaway, The Left Banke - Walk Away Renee, The Tremeloes Silence is Golden, Herman Hermits - There's a Kind of hush, The Dave Clark Five - because I love you.  Finally finishing off with my favorite, Journey  Don't stop Believing on 45rpm.  To this day I cannot hear that song without hearing the crackle of the record.  Fast forward to 1986, when my next door neighbor just 3 years older than me got me into radio. What was playing on power 99.5 FM was Huey Lewis - power of Love.  My love of radio stations and taping song off of the radio was born. First song I taped off the Radio? Bon Jovi- Living on a Prayer off of thier Slippery When Wet album.  Got a boom box and a portable radio every other year for Christmas, along with cassettes ordered off of BMG amd Columbia House. My mom would also take me and my sister to various music stores, including, Sound Off, Starbound Records and Randys Records.  Only Randys is still open.  Then along came the 90s and with it my teen years, and with it thanks to my awesome besties of my misfit friends, and just as equally misfit cousins, came the love for..... rock, alternative, and metal!!!!! Ah, my cousins blaring Lita Ford, Tesla, Def Leppard among others.  My besties got me into Green Day and Metallica. Nothing like cruisin state street with Enter Sandman blasting.  Alternative rock was all the rage as Hole, Sound garden and Candlebox was played on the radio and some dances. By the time I entered college (2 yr trade school) my CD collection grew with Korn, Limp Bizkit, Blink 182 and along with that, going to shows. Now here it is 2017, I still have maybe half of my CD collection, the rest is on my spotify playlist, which I bust out while cleaning my own house, introducing my kids to a very diverse music taste with no restrictions, just as my own mother did 37 years ago.

I used to love taping songs from the radio when I was a kid.
