My friend is missing?

He rang me from a foreign country. Then he texted he was back and would "ring tomorrow." Then tomorrow came and it has now been a week. The phone goes to voicemail. His Watsapp is unused since last Monday and one big worry I have is that the guy is in jail. Of course, he could be ill, or worse. His Facebook is also untouched. In the US you can do a search of inmates online, but here in the UK it is not as simple and you have to make a special application to find out it someone is "inside". This means a person can be arrested in the UK and all the people who knew them might think they were missing because there is no quick way to find out. I searched the court lists but couldn't find a case with the right name. It seems intrusive to ask Facebook friends and non of ours are mutual any more so I would not know who to ask anyway. I did know he could end up in jail although the reasons why are complicated and he is no hardened criminal. The whole thing is a mystery and I don't actually have his address. I wonder what happened? People do of course, go missing including my own Grandfather (found him) and my Father's Father (they never found out where he went but he was living in the same town all the time!) All I can do is wait and pray. But WHERE ARE YOU?

Sorry to hear this. I hope he shows up soon. If he is in jail he should be able to give you a collect call.

Well maybe. I did know this could happen! However, I cannot see anything in the court lists. I should emphasise nothing violent and maybe a huge injustice or even an example of stupidity of the intellectual kind was involved.

@Jackalyn I understand that happens sometimes. I have been through it with a friend especially if there are warrants issued. I hope you find out where he is soon.

@Happy2BeMe it's all very long drawn out and complicated and I've just been hoping it would resolve. My theory is he's upset people in high places. The trouble is with these things you never really know quite what to think.

I would be very worried. You could check the hospitals - if possible.

It had occurred to me, although unless for a serious accident you would probably have your phone in a hospital these days. Unfortunately, I suspect it is the prison scenario.

Is it possible he had an accident? I would check the hospital first.

@LadyDuck It isn't even my area which makes it be more difficult because I really don't know which hospitals they would be or even which part of the country he would have been in to start with. I know where he lives roughly but we just never got around to exchanging addresses despite being pretty friendly.

I guess it is but I am not sure where best to check.

@Jackalyn I suspect that it's not easy to make plenty of calls to every hospital in your area.

That is very distressing. Hope he is alright and you can get in touch somehow.

Hmmm ... if he'd been due to go to court he wouldn't have been allowed to leave the country, surely. I hope he turns up soon. Curious.

I doubt he woild be an idiot and to try and leave the country. My theory is he went to court and got sent down and that somehow I'll find him through the court appeal system once you can see when it comes up. I think it's the only person I know who actually has ever been to jail and it's all over the same issue which may be actually a miscarriage of Justice.

@Jackalyn I meant when he called you from a foreign country, so he'd been abroad with a court case pending. Have you still not heard anything? You could report him missing. Maybe somebody needs to go to his home. Do you know anybody who knows where he lives?

Do you know any of his family members?

Not really. Not any more. I keep looking at the papers and trying to remember clues like where he said he went to church.

I hope you hear from your friend soon. It's quite disconcerting to have someone disappear like that.

I guess I will hear what happened one day. This particular friend it could be anything at all. A bit of a zany character. The odd thing is his phone still rings and I do think he would have texted me. I suppose he could not have any money and not be able to pay his Internet bill either, but that would not preclude his answering the phone. If it is in a jail and it was fully charged I guess the battery would last a while though. I don't think you are allowed to take it into court though I could be wrong about that. The only times I have been was as to watch a trial.

That must be so frustrating for you not to hear from your friend. I hope he is well wherever he is.

He could have lost his phone or doesn't have the internet right now.

I wish he had said. I did know he had the possibility of being jailed. I don't in any way think he is a criminal, but technically he broke the law. It is complicated. I just thought maybe he ran off, but I do not think he is the sort of person who would do that.
