Have you met an online friend in person?

Have you met someone you communicated with through social media, an online site or Mylot? I have heard some good and bad stories about meeting people online. I have never met anyone this way but I am interested to know what your experience was.
You may have a great relationship or friendship with people on Mylot or other social media, but I am always curious to know what they would be like if you actually met them face to face.
Would want to or care to meet anyone you chat with online in person?
If you have met someone online was it a positive or negative experience?
Did your relationship get worse or better after meeting and do you still connect online?

I have actually met 2 people I met online. Both were very positive experiences. I had to travel far from my home, to different states and stayed with them each for a week. Sadly one has passed away but I still talk with the other. Both were women as am I, I don't think I would do that if it were a man.

Well I met my husband online 13 years ago and we got married and had kids so that was good! =)
I haven't met anyone else in person from the online world yet.

Yes I had met another myLotter one year..we had fun chatting and it was fine. I haven´t seen her around here for a long time.

@Freelanzer that's true. I used to go hiking in the woods and would get lost and most places didnt have cell service. I would think to myself no one would find me for awhile if I couldn't find my way out.

You do have to be careful and smart about who you meet. Always a good idea to let a friend or family member know ho you are meeting too.

I've never met anyone from online in real life yet, but I have plans to meet a couple of myLotters this year when they vacation down here in Florida over the winter. I'm sure it will be a very positive experience!

@moffittjc You may not change but what about the person you are meeting? It is difficult to tell one's true personality online. I guess I could tell from the interactions, who I would be comfortable meeting and who I would rather not, so there would be no surprises - I think.

@Freelanzer I think one of the reasons why I would love to meet people from this site, and why I wouldn't be nervous about doing so, is because I don't change who I am online. The way people see me on here and the way I interact with them is how I am in real life. Many people have different personalities when they are online, and so they may be afraid to meet other online people in real life because they don't want people to see the "real" them.

Yes I have met online people in person. One time I flew down to spend the weekend with the lady and her hubby- oh my! 100 acre paradise. Another time the person I'd talked with dogs about drove two hours to spend time with us when we visited her part of the world. That sure was a fun afternoon. I hadn't laughed so hard in years.

I have met a few of my online friends and it has always been a good experience.it was just like two old friends meeting. We already knew each other so well just from talking online that it wasn't like meeting a stranger. Years ago I use to have pen pals and I met quite a few of them. We went on to become very close friends and some of them I am still in contact with today.

That is good to know - makes me less wary if or when it happens. I used to have pen pals too when I was quite young but never met anyone.

Met plenty of my cyber friends. Some become very good friends while others, become enemies with time (not at the time of the meeting, but BECAUSE of the subsequent meetings). Thing is, familiarity breeds contempt in certain cases, some seemed to be harmless as cyber friends. The moment they met you in real life, they began to terrorize you. Odd really!

Not odd to me. Most people say their experience was positive but I do know in reality, the person you talk to online is not always the same person when you meet. As you say familiarity does breed contempt.
