Attack of the Monster Kitten!

Opal has passed 9 weeks now. She hasn't been drinking from the bottle for over a month. She is now actually jumping and climbing, just like a big cat. However, I took her to the vet a couple of weeks ago and where she should've been 1.75 pounds, she was only 1.25 pounds. This does explain what we kind of suspected, that her mom put her out because she was the runt. A feral cat doesn't have time and energy on kittens she doesn't think will survive. Heidi, our next youngest cat, has been playing a bit with her, but since she's 5 now, and she's always been the "baby" before Opal came, she isn't too sure how to play with a kitten. Nefermew, our oldest girl, maybe even the oldest cat in the house, who was born mid-spring of 2002, is the next most tolerant of her, but that seems to be mostly because she wants to be in the front room and that's where Opal is. Well, where Opal is most of the time, and all night. The reason is that Boe, the older dog, went after about a month ago. He actually got her wet, so he nearly had her. Boe got a fist to his head when he did that, and I proceeded to spank him all the way to the back door, to where he spent the night outside. I have never hit him before, but he has to learn that the kitten is off limits. I have since done my best to make him understand that he doesn't need to even look in the front room. Not by hitting him, well, okay, I hit him in the face with a blast from a water sprayer, but not with my hand. I even stand back around the corner when I know he's there and squirt the water through the screen. However, she's gotten to where she will attack us. Not in a mean way, but because even Heidi won't play that way with her. She will play chase with Opal, but Heidi will play chase by herself if nobody else will play with her. Still, I looked over and Heidi was hanging by her teeth from the wife's upper arm. She attacked me a bit ago, and I did what I always do, put her down. Still, wish I had a current picture so you could see how cute she's gotten and how she gets away with this stuff!

Opal seems to be the new 'favorite' in the household.

She's a cute baby and if you don't give a kitten enough attention, they don't learn to want it. We have to be careful to not carry her too much because then they can get to the point that they don't want attention too. Since she doesn't have a mother or siblings, we are having to teach her to not bite hard.

I know, a little blurry, but she is either moving or asleep in the dark. Down in front of her is Booboo, our biggest cat. That's just part of his back. I'll...
