I finished listening to The King's Deception by Steve Berry. It is the 8th book of the Cotton Malone book series. I love this series. Big Warning: there is some violence. This book deals with King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. In this book, Cotton's ex wife asks him what happened 2 years ago when their son visited him for the summer. (At times in the book, it was touch and go if Cotton would die. I kept having to remind myself that Cotton had to live since he is telling the story.) Cotton was asked by his former boss to drop off a kid in England because the kid was wanted for stealing something and fleeing the country. He had brought his son along because he thought it would be easy. It wasn't easy. The kid that was wanted had stolen a flash drive off of a man who got killed. The flash drive contained information about two things. One was treasure that King Henry VIII had hid. The other was that Queen Elizabeth I was a man. (this is a real conspiracy theory. One that could be true.) A man named Blake had led Cotton, Cotton's son, and the kid there to England. Blake had discovered that he is Cotton's son birth father. He wanted to spend time with him and try to sway him toward leaving Cotton. Cotton's son Gary found out about this and he thought that Blake would be a good guy. But Blake wasn't a good guy. Cotton is the good guy and best father (imo). In the end, Blake "accidentally" (read the book to find out what that means) kills himself. The kid decides that it is time to stop being a street kid. Gary makes up with his mother. And the secret of Queen Elizabeth is still a secret. I loved this book. Now I'm going to read 2nd Chance by James Patterson.
