Cranberries and UTI

Philippines

Lately, I noticed that when I get the urge to pee, it's more of a nuisance since there isn't much expelled. Maybe it's a bout of UTI (urinary tract infection) so I bought some cranberry pills at the drugstore. I've been taking it after meals once or twice a day for a few days now, and have noticed that each trip to the toilet takes longer now, so that's a relief. I only bought one blister pack (10 pills). Don't know yet if I'll buy more after this. For those who've had UTI (urinary tract infection), what works for you? P.S. Here's some info I found about cranberries from the World's Healthiest Foods website in case you're interested: "Recent research has shown that it's not the acidity of the cranberries, but the unusual nature of their proanthocyanidins (PACs) that is related to prevention of UTIs. The special structure of these PACs (involving A-type linkages between their components) acts as a barrier to bacteria that might otherwise latch on to the urinary tract lining."

I used to get a lot of bladder infections, and the cranberry thing just never worked for me. But I understand it does for some people. Good luck! Those infections are so uncomfortable.

You should be aware of that. I started with UTI before going on for a Dialysis. If I were you, take much water to clean everything or coconut juice. It helps a lot.

@hereandthere But it helps to clean all the toxins in your body. If you want to start your water treatment be sure not to take soft drinks and salty foods.

So there are pills of cranberries already. That is good to hear. Actually, cranberry juice is also good in lieu of the pills. Cranberry should not be taken with some maintenance medicines as I have read.

@hereandthere I will take note of that. it's been more than a decade since I last experienced having UTI. Maybe it's because I drink more than 8 glasses of water a day and keep urinating.

Cranberries are very good to treat UTI, I also drink cranberry juice when I have the problem. If it's too serious I take antibiotics.

Cranberries get a very good rap from most health experts. It seems to me that different things work for different people. It's great if you find something that works for you.

I never had UTI. Maybe because we oftentimes eat fish in sour soup (in kalamansi) with sweet potato tops. I read that lemon and sweet pototo tops are good for kidney. And I always drink lots of water.

I consume a huge bottle of cranberry juice, drink lots of water, and eat plenty of yogurt. I get relief usually after a day on this regimen, but i continue the juice for at least 3 days. I also avoid drinking anything hot, especially coffee, as it seems to worsen the cramps. When i was a kid, my mama would give me pure coconut juice from the market (no sugar added) or boil corn hair (?) And have me drink the infused water. They did work.

i know buko juice is good, and there's a stand here with sacks of coconuts, but i never liked buko except buko pie, buko ice candy and buko ice drop. hehe. i've always been a water drinker and buy yogurt once in a while. i don't get cramps, though. your regimen is worth following.

@hereandthere I also avoid wearing skimpy clothes like tight pants or shorts and try to wear air-cool clothes made of cotton. If you do not have cramps, perhaps what you have is urinary incontinence and not UTI. I hope you feel better soon.

Watch out, some nuts and seeds could cause that problem. I once suffered because I had enjoyed the sunflower seeds too much while on a long car trip. Two days drinking lots of water to flush the whole things out, cured it completely.

I have actually heard especially for Diabetics or people who suffer from a lot of UTI's that Cranberry juice and the pills is a Good thing to keep on hand and use. I know from time to time I drink the juice especially the Pomegranite Cranberry juice. But I do have the pills on hand if I really need them.

I only had a UTI once in my life and that was during a vacation. The only thing that cured me was an antibiotic that my doctor called into the pharmacy.
