Therapy Good or bad?

So I have been referred for therapy to help with my mental illnesses. I have been through counselling, therapy etc before and found that it wasn't really helpful it was just an outlet to talk to some stranger about my feelings, which I do here basically. Do you find that therapy works? Is it something that you would truly put your heart and soul into it?

I have to agree with you, that those psychologists psychiatrists counsellors whoever they are, often just sit there listening to our thought, then give us a bill to pay, with the schedule for a next appointment! Here, mylot is free and we give you a few cents back instead of charging you an arm and a leg .

This is a huge question. Only for you to figure out! I found that the Twelve Steps did me a lot of good but that is me. I wish you well with your issues.

Personally I believe it helps but you need to play the biggest role. It is all about you

I think you need to see them every so often for your meds atleast. I find they can't help if you don't give them all info on how you are feeling. It works for some and not for others I guess....

I personally find writing things down a lot easier than talking to someone when it's a close problem. For me, writing therapy is probably better. However if I did need help I would still try out whatever was on offer just to see if it helped. There may come a time when you find that you've got the right therapist and the right help.

I can see why people would say it helps. During school I had therapy two times, once when my parents got divorced and another when I got older and for me it didn't really help. I get that it's helpful to talk to someone who isn't familiar with your situation but for me personally I don't know if I would actually pay for that. But it's different for everyone. i use books that are used in therapy and just do them myself and they help a little.

I think therapy helps if you find the right therapist. Very important to find someone ne you are comfortable with. Wishing you the best
