random musings on the bus

I often forget that the city I work in is so spectacular. Tourists and students alike do love it so. Today they love the homeless people. There are many of those here, although reports earlier in the year suggested that many of the homeless were in fact not homeless and simply begging because it's a good way to make some dosh. Most of them are quite quiet and pleasant, affording you a happy hello and a smile. Others are a little more scary and shouty, especially when they've downed a couple of cans of cheap booze. The visitors to this illustrious and technological city are also enjoying the litter today. It flows from the bins in a wonderfully arty way, much like a modern art installation by some ridiculously arrogant artist. Pizza boxes fight with fizzy pop bottles to control the pile of rubbish that builds up around the bottom of the bin, spilling onto the grass in the pleasant park. The leaves are beginning to fall from the trees, creating puddles of orangey-red crunchiness on the pavements. Visitors can run through them, but must be mindful of the dog poo which may be cunningly hiding amongst the beauty. I have five conkers in my bag. The floor under my feet is sticky. The girl behind me is irksome with her loud voice and her even louder kissing noises. The girl in front has forgotten to put her skirt on. She'll get chilly later. Blue lights are whizzing past. Visitors may marvel at the pretty brightness and the sing-song of the sirens. Toddler Niece and I went to see some ducks today. The ducks weren't there, but there were boats and a bitter and twisted lady. No, not my MiL, silly! This lady was smiley and chatted to us but she insisted she was bitter and twisted. I think she may have been one of the homeless. I wonder if the visitors to this fine city have enjoyed the stars which sparkled in the river today. They were bright and shiny and danced alongside the ripples of the water. I suggested they were fairies but Toddler Niece was having none of it ... Why is this bus so empty?

'cos you've missed your stop and are now in a bus, bereft of passengers and in a depot somewhere...?

That would be very humiliating. Thankfully it was just because it's a Friday and everyone either leaves work earlier or hangs around later. :)

@xFiacre She didn't look like the sort of daughter you would have raised. She was far too tarty.

I was exhausted when I began writing it, but feeling oddly energised by the time I finished. Hmmm ...

Wow you write pretty well. My imagination went on specially on the part about the leaves scattered and making sound when someone step on it. Something like that. I kinda imagine autum colors.

Thank you. It's nice to know I can create a picture in someone's head. :)

After reading this discussion, I think I should grab a spot somewhere in your city as a homeless person too. Sounds fun! (but the dog dropping makes me think again... )

It would be interesting to do just to see what it's really like. It's sad that there are so many of them on the streets, and even sadder that a few rotten apples ensure that the general public don't know whether to trust they are really homeless or not.
