GONE WITH THE WIND.

Do you ever feel vulnerable? - like you are not the one who is in control of your life? As I watch the elegant royal palm trees, the fruit trees and shrubs on the grounds of our home, I am painfully aware of how easily all of it could be reduced to a wasteland scattered with debris. The recent exploits of monster storms Irma and Maria are a sure reminder of what is possible. With storms predicted to become even stronger - every hurricane season the possibility exists that property and life as we know it could be gone with the wind. Not only are we vulnerable to natural disasters but there are also those that are man made. Life can be so unpredictable - so let us enjoy every day if possible. The picture taken by me shows one section of our property with two royal palm trees visible.

Your trees and flowers are very pretty in your photo. You're right, life is so unpredictable. We need to make the most of every moment.

@Kandae11 That really was tragic. I hope some homes and possessions were spared.

Thank you. It was so sad watching the evacuees from the island of Barbuda making their way to the rescue aircraft. They were on their way to another country with only a suitcase or bag in their hands. All of their other belongings accumulated over many years were either destroyed or blown away by Irma.

We should be thankful that we have these blessing of life and enjoy every day. The things that we see are all product of god's greatest gift.

Check out time could be any time nowadays @Kandae11 . I've been thinking more about that cave in the Colorado Rockies. But then again....who wants to come out after the sh*t hits the fan and there's nothing but devastation.

I would love to have a cave nearby -I would start stocking it up. Can't do that at home, because if any kind of devastation occurs, roaming bands of bandits will take what I have stored.

Our life is truly vulnerable. We have to keep safe as best as we can and pray to God that we may be saved from harm.

So many things could go wrong - ill health , accidents there could be change in the twinkling of an eye. That is why we should try to live meaningful lives, every hour every day.

Yes, I agree life is so short and vulnerable. We should be thankful to him that we enjoyed life longer than others.

@Kandae11 In an astronomy class we were told how really rare it is for a planet to be in jus the right location to it's star to be hot enough, but not too hot, atmospheres and etc - to support human life.

@FayeHazel Well, every year it is getting hotter - and it is the warmer ocean temperatures which trigger these monster storms.

It's a lovely piece of property and I agree we need to cherish each day and make the most of it . I am reminded of a place close to here where an entire hillside collapsed during monsoons and several families lost their houses and land ..

@Kandae11 That's good , here the collapse happened in stages, so there was time to evacuate people when a part of the hill caved in.

There is a hill some distance behind our property, but it seems solid enough. I hope no lives were lost in that collapse.

Yes it is lovely - but we have two whole months left in the hurricane season. Hoping that beautiful scene is allowed to remain that way.

It looks very beautiful there. There are hazards everywhere it seems, though hurricanes do come every year. In the northwest, we are vulnerable to a massive earthquake at sometime from now to who knows when.

Thankfully no. My country was not in the path of Irma or Maria. The last hurricane to hit us badly was Sandy in 2012 - and Matthew in 2016 missed us by a whisper.

Everytime strong winds howling around us, I was scared stiff, in case the wind would strip off our roof. So far, the roof is still there, but until when?

Yeah, that is why I don't treat usually think of the future because we do not know what will happen tomorrow. I don't think too much or plan too much for my future because it would be an awful life if I only plan for the future and there is no happiness in my day to day living. We should enjoy life to the fullest since we only live once.

We should still have a plan or purpose - because you never really know - you just might live to be a hundred. However, just because we don't know what the future holds we should live every day to the fullest, while hoping for the best.
