Of Course, Now It Doesn't Leak!

The plumber was just here. We ran water down the garbage disposal for a good 15 minutes. And of course now the thing isn't leaking. He left without doing anything since he couldn't see any leak and didn't know what to fix. He said he was going to ask the office if they want him to just go ahead and replace the garbage disposal anyway since it vibrates a lot. He's supposed to call back and let me know and try to swing back by before 3 p.m. if they okay replacing it. I got about an hour and a half of sleep and am exhausted. I don't want to wait around for this guy to maybe come back. My sister is supposed to be here at noon. I was hoping to grab a few more hours of sleep before then. And of course the plumber was moving all kinds of cleaning products out from under the sink, where we store them, and setting them on the kitchen floor, so now my anxiety is through the roof about whether or not anything spilled that I may have missed, since my cat walks through there. I swept and wiped up the area the best I could and don't see anything, but anxiety doesn't listen to logic. Also the plumber's hands were filthy and he was touching everything in my kitchen so now I'm going to have to wipe everything down later. It'll do no good to do it now if he just comes back and starts touching everything again. I hate being a germaphobe and I hate panicking about one of us or the cat accidentally being poisoned. I wish I lived in an environment without germs and without toxic chemicals. Or that I could at least stop panicking over those two things. And this is just one reason why I hate dealing with repair guys coming into my home, they disrupt the "order" to everything and usually make a mess in the process. Which I will spend the rest of the day panicking over, even after I've cleaned up the mess.

Yes that is strange that it did not leak. When I know a repairman is coming I have the area ready and waiting. So he does not have to move my stuff.

I moved the stuff out of his way that would have blocked his access to the disposal and the area around it but he was moving stuff that wasn't near where he had to work. I don't know why he was even touching that stuff. He was even opening the dishwasher (which I ran last night and hadn't unloaded yet) and messing around with it too, even though it's not connected to the garbage disposal and was not on when it was leaking the other night. Yes, it's very odd. I've never had a leak just mysteriously stop leaking.

Isn't that the way it always works? I hate having people invade my home, too... something that I've found helpful to me has been taking the chemicals directly from the cabinet and placing them inside a big plastic tote, so they don't touch the floor at all. That way you can be sure that nothing's on the floor, and just put the tote away afterwards. Even one of those short ones that fit under a bed might do the job, or a cardboard box that can be tossed in the trash or recycling after.

That is a really helpful tip! I never thought of doing that. I will have to look for something to use. Thanks for sharing that tip with me!

@TiarasOceanView He kept saying that renters do things like that because they are not the home owners and do not care about breaking things. Even if he has to replace a ton of garbage disposals because of that reason, it was not acceptable for him to say that to me. He was sort of ranting about it and when I said that I never do anything like that, he hurried up and said "I don't mean you do it, but other renters do." Hmm....

He replaced it anyway, and then lectured me about not grinding up silverware and bones in the garbage disposal... Who the hell does that?? I have never done anything like that. I barely use the disposal except for small bits of food. I let him know I thought it was bizarre anyone would do that. I get that they have a dirty job, but is it so hard for them to wash their hands? He showed up first thing this morning with filthy hands and then he was touching everything and pulling open my dishwasher and running water in it to see if the garbage disposal backed up into it when I told him there were clean dishes in there. Now I'll probably have to run it again just because the thought of it grosses me out (even though I know nothing backed up into it.) And he left crud on my kitchen floor. Yuck.

This is all time what happens, the repair man comes and the problems disappears. I hope they are going to replace your garbage disposal.

They did, thankfully. Hopefully that takes care of the leak. Just my luck it'll start leaking under the sink again and then disappear when he comes back out to look at it.
