I pity these students

I was disheartened to read recently the tribulations Indian students go through to acquire education. I hear the Indian education system is actually a rat race. Students strive to win at all costs. The race starts from kindergarten where teachers teach them to study as hard as possible. Teachers administer corporal punishment to struggling students while their peers shun them. Teachers use crude stuff like rulers, small stones and bullies to punish week students. These are extreme measures taken by students will eventually have adverse effects on the students.

Such punishment is banned in India and is a punishable offence. As soon as any teacher falls out of line, they are handed over to authority. And if the parents or the school administration in any way fails to take action and inform authorities, action is taken against them too. The type of punishments you are talking about were at large when I was in school. ( I finished High School in 2003. It is now few and far between. What Indian education system lacks is in the active participation. The interaction-type study methods. If by rat race you mean, intense competition then yes that's definitely is the case. Though it is nowhere intense as it was decades ago. The new evolved CCE took the majority of the pressure off the children by removing the practice of ranking and marking students exams. They are now Graded from A to E so there is no winner or a loser. The best thing is that calculators are not permitted in schools. Not even for regular classes. Let alone exams. They do not memorize Mathematics problems. They actually solve it manually.

I learnt to use the interactive method as a trainee teacher and used it for 40 years.

If a teacher punished their pupils like this in Germany, they'd lose their jobs at once! What an idiotic idea to think that a weak pupil can understand a problem better if they're beaten.

I am not from Germany but I agree with you that this is an unconventional way to impart knowledge to Students.

@DrEdwi It's not only unconventional, it's counterproductive! How will a pupil learn to love a subject when he or she associates it with beatings?

@MALUSE That is fast becoming thing of history. A few cases here and there pop up and they are dealt quickly because people are now more vigilant in such cases. It helps that it has been a punishable offense for last couple of years

Teachers aren't allowed to do that here, they could face disciplinary actions. This extreme, unnecessary pressure on students to study hard sadly exists in many schools today.

Teachers and the students should all be responsible in maintaining the school clean. Where dis you get the information? I am curious
