The Ups and Downs of Life

For all of us life has it's ups and downs. Today the ups and downs I'm talking about is my laundry room. When I bought my house one of the main features I liked was the laundry room is on the second floor. This makes it practical since 99% of all the laundry is generated by the bedrooms and bathrooms. Ahhh the convenience of it all I thought. However, as these years go by I realize that it didn't eliminate my traipsing up and down the stairs. This morning I put on the washer as I passed by and came downstairs to make the coffee and start my day. Then the buzzer buzzed and it was time to move the wash into the dryer which meant another trip up the stairs and then back down. Since I spend more time downstairs than upstairs this really isn't that big a deal and most of the time I try to do things upstairs while doing the laundry. Today was an exception. Seems that there is no winning when it comes to laundry. If your laundry is on the first floor you have to lug all the clothes up and down (also if you have a basement hookups). The only way to win with laundry is to have everything on one floor including the bedrooms. Of course the other way to win is to be a nudist and not need clothes Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Hope you have sunshine and enjoying this day.

Our washer and dryer are downstairs in the bathroom.. laundry piles are upstairs. But we do laundry few times a week so we dont get too heavy of baskets to be a problem.

Lugging laundry up and down stairs sounds like a chore. I'm just as happy that I don't have to do it. But I don't have the room. I live in an apartment.

Until we get a dryer we have to go to the laundromat-I think I would rather carry laundry up the stairs! Lol

I solved the problem of running up and down the stairs - I have a one story house, no basement, no attic - everything is on one level.

I don't like washer/dryer on the second floor due to threat of malfunction leading to flooding.

You have to walk up and down the stairs, its tiring especially when you are old.

Our big home was all on 1 floor, however, the laundry room was in the basement. We considered converting 1 of the bedrooms, which was situated between 2 bathrooms, into a main floor laundryroom, and it would have been so easy as the plumbing was right there. However, my husband thought that it would decrease the value going from 4 bedrooms to 3 so we didn't do it and listed the house and just sold it instead. This house has a main floor laundry room and I really like it.

Our laundry room is in the basement, no way to have one upstairs, the insurance would not pay if there is a flooding. There is a drain in the middle of the floor where the washer, dryer and laundry sink are placed.

Ours is all on one level, but the new washer we bought is quite noisy at times and I wish it was somewhere else.

I grew up in a huge ranch house that my father designed and built. I will never live in a ranch again, unless I'm in poor health. I have buns of steal running up and down the stairs to where our bedrooms are located. lol

While it's not too much of a chore for you to go up and down, think of how much good it is doing you to climb these stairs. Different of course if you have bad knees or hips or whatever. Although there are now more double storey houses in Australia than there used to be, the majority are single storey.

I have the same problem, my son's bedroom is on the 2nd floor and laundry room is in the basement. I have never brought down his dirty clothes nor will I carry up his clean ones and he knows it. My bedroom is on the first floor so still no getting around all the up and down on the stairs.

I love having a one story house in Florida, laundry was never as convenient, just walk from the bedroom across the dining room and into the garage. I love it. Here I am on three floors ugh!!
