The last of the Honey "bunch"

On Memorial Day of 2004, we went out to the wife's folks. We knew going out that we were bring back a mother and her litter of kittens. We also knew that the kittens were pretty feral. We pretty quickly found a home for the tamest of the 3, we called him "Steamer" but he was renamed "Top Cat" by the man who didn't want a cat until this fellow won him completely over. The calico girl went to a friend's mom who wanted a calico, she got named "Molly Bolt" because she would bolt every where. Molly fell in love with the friend's dog. Molly was about the most feral of the kittens. Honey, the mom, went to another friend's because her son wanted a cat so badly. And Gizmo, who was the one that no body wanted, except us. Well, Top Cat died first of bone cancer. Molly died next, nobody was sure of what, but it was only a few months after her dog died, and I think it was of a broken heart. Then Honey died either late in 16 or early this year. She was in kidney failure. Today I caught Gizmo and it turned out he also had cancer, this was in his lymph node around his left ear. If he had been tamer, if he had been younger, we might've considered surgery, but he was in pain. He would've also been impossible to treat after the surgery and, honestly, it just wasn't worth the trauma to him to try. I chose to let them put him down. That's 8 animals in right about 12 months. I know that the pet population is aging. Zoe was 15, Cujo 14, Taj was 15, Pong would've been 13 about a month after Giz turned 13 in May. But Oliver was only 11 and Rygel was 12 and a half. Heck, even the hamster we'd only had 10 months... but we think he was older when we got him. Yes, we replaced one dog and the hamster and then Opal was brought to us, but still... I really hope this is IT for the year.

Thanks, I hope this is it for a while. Yes we have 2 15 year old cats, one with FIV, but they are doing pretty good.

@ElicBxn 15 years is an old age for a cat, but many lives a lot longer.

How awful to lose so many in such a short time. I will send good thoughts to you and yours to try and keep anything else from happening.

On the whole, unless something unexpected happens, we are only worried about Timus, because he is 15 and is FIV+.
