Hello from....well, nowhere. I’m out on an overnight camping jaunt. Obviously I’m not in the sleeping bag yet, but at a McDonald’s not too far from Mammoth Cave. I’m enjoying the Cubs game on the radio and ready to give you another song on my list of favorite songs with “river” in the title. #5: Let’s All Go Down to the River - Jody Miller & Johnny Paycheck A word of warning: if you’re expecting slide off of your satin sheets, take this job and shove some Colorado Kool-Aid, this will shock the dickens out of you. You see, back before Paycheck was a honky tonk singer. He’d also throw in a gospel song or two. One of his early songs was a song written by Country Johnny Mathis (note the country there, don’t think it was the “Chances Are” guy), called “According to the Bible.” The “name” on the single actually belongs to Jody Miller, who’s best-known for her Grammy-winning “answer song” to “King of the Road,” “Queen of the House.” It was released on her album, not his. This is a hard-driving country song with a direct gospel message. It’s always been one of my favorite Johnny Paycheck songs...even if it’s technically not his. Let’s All Go Down to the River Written by Earl Montgomery and Sue Richards Recorded by Jody Miller with Johnny Paycheck From There’s a Party Going On, 1972 Come along with me:

That aforementioned Green River is nearby. John Fogerty is nowhere to be seen, though.

I had to listen, as I didn't recognize it. I do enjoy listening to gospel every now and then. Pretty good stuff.
