In Germany, banks take old, torn and stinking money out of circulation and print new ones. Coins which are too dirty are washed occasionally. The dirtiest banknotes I've ever seen were the ones we encountered in Egypt.

Really? I have this notes from almost 30 years ago. I did not check them for real long time, and today for asylum's post, I just brought it out...the smell was really bad. But I thought it is only because they have been kept closed for such a long period.

@vandana7 Why don't you take them to the bank and ask for new ones?

They may be using Ammonia for printing.

Stinky or not but the important is that you can buy with that money.

One can only imagine what journey money takes before getting to us, then to store it away for a few years. The odour would be yuck, but you have collected it, so can you maybe sell some of it? Or is it as momentos?

Can't you wash them? Guess not because old notes there might have been in 'paper' type?
