Getting help today

We are allowed to burn off leaves and rubbish in Western Australia until the end of this month. We try to tidy up in this way each year as it reduces the risk of bushfires destroying our house and property, However we’re getting older and finding these things harder – and we’re running out of time so in a few minutes Vince is going into Donnybrook and hiring two backpackers to help us rake and burn leaves. There is also a tree across one fence and Vince will saw this up with the chain-saw. Once it dries out it will warm us next winter. The photo is of a previous burn-off although today's heaps won't be as big as this.

We are not allowed to burn here, we need to take the leaves and brush to the local dump, it is a pain we would much rather burn it.

@JudyEv We are in a small town and we have almost an acre of land so it wouldn't disturb anyone but they banned it many ears ago.

I don't think burning is allowed in the cities but we're 7kms out of town so it's okay here.

@BelleStarr It does cause a lot of smoke pollution but we can't do much else with the leaf litter and we are well away from any neighbours. The aim is to make the area around the house free from stuff that could sustain fire should we have a bushfire on our doorstep.

They go up nicely for a little while. We generally try to keep them smaller in case sparks start flying.

Same as @BelleStarr, we are not allowed to burn here. We collect the leaves and everything we need to dispose and we bring up on the main road every Tuesday morning before 7 AM, they have trucks to collect the green garbage.

It is good that they collect your green waste. They do that in our cities too. There is no burning allowed in the city.

@JudyEv Here it's a lot smaller than your country, if we should burn stuff in the garden, we would pollute the nearest garden, that is not a very nice thing to do.

Because of the risk of bushfire we like to keep the leaf litter down as much as possible.

We can burn in a metal container, or a fireplace. But many communities around here are not allowed to burn at all.

Burning isn't allowed in the cities and towns but we're out on a rural block.

I think that Manitou allows burning at certain times. Not sure about Colorado Springs.

I don't think burning is allowed in the cities but here in the sticks it's okay.

It has caused a lot of smoke but we're out in the country so it doesn't bother anyone much.
